When all is quiet in my house that does not always mean that things are okay.... So I went exploring and this is what I found. Take one set of stairs, an old toddler mattress and two kids with too much energy and you have the makings of a great activity.
****
First you pull the mattress up to the top of the stairs.
Then you get on and start inching closer to the edge of the stairs.
You let gravity pull you down the stairs at a faster-than-I thought-was-possible-speed with your sibling tagging along.
You laugh hysterically cause this is so much fun.
You laugh hysterically cause this is so much fun.
Then you get tangled up in the mattress at the bottom of the stairs and do it all over again and again and again.

They wanted me to do it, but when I could not even inch over the edge I opted to become the person that captures all the fun.

Kids that were sick just hours ago it seems are so resilient and so much fun. I wonder what they will come up with next?

Amazing how quickly they recover, isn't it?
My niece, Danielle, has been sick all week, poor thing. I'm praying we stay well...
I used to do this with my brother and sisters growing up. Except that instead of using a mattress we'd use a huge pile of blankets (think 8-10 at least) that would all go tumbling. A mattress probably would have been a little bit safer. Fun memories.
My kids haul our huge LuvSac to the bottom of the stairs and jump. I hold my breath every time. They always try to get me to jump. The older I get the more cautious I'm getting because it hurts tomorrow!
It looks fun to me!!! I think I'd like to try it!!
My kids do this ALL the time. Usually they use cardboard boxes though. Someday, someone is going to break an arm! Hey, will you email me more about croup? My baby woke up barking like a seal last night. I thought of you all night long.
What a cool mom to let your kids have fun like this....my daughter is sitting over here saying..you would not let us do that..LOLOL...I am sure she will it try now..haha...love the pics!! :)
Awesome, just like on Home Alone when he's sledding down the stairs and out the front door. I think I'm glad I don't have stairs yet. I'll take some after I don't have wobbly toddlers.
hee hee hee. at least they were playing nice together and not fighting, right?
That is too funny! Their facial expressions are priceless.
My sister and I used to do the very same thing... not too many years ago. My mom wasn't as fun as you are and didn't approve of it, so we had to wait for her to leave before we could use the stairs slide. :)
HI GRAN KIDS, JUST WANTED TO SAY HI AND I MISS YOU. YOUR IMAGINATION IS SO GREAT I WOULD HAVE DONE THAT SLIDE TO. AM FIGHTING A COLD BUT WILL SEE YOU SOON.
LV GRANPA. COUGH COUGH.
I was going to say...
Gee, they must be feeling better!
But you beat me to it.
That looks like a whole ton of fun. I wish I were there to play with them.
You all have to realize that I did not give my approval to this, I just happened upon it after it was in progress so what could I do.....there are bigger fights then going down the stairs with a matress to win, so I just let this one slide. ha ha hee
So, my Mommy Self looked at those pictures and started to shake her finger...
...then my Wendy-Girl self reminded me that I had done the very same thing (minus the mattress!) when I was little.
Sometimes you just gotta shake your head...laugh...and grab the camera!
Good job, Mom.
We used to do this with our sleeping bags. Granted in some cases, my mom never knew about. them. (She doesn't blog, so I'm okay to spill!) Anyway, the mattress seems like a softer way to go down.
I think it's pretty cool that this was a fight you didn't wage, laughed about it and let them have fun. Looking back, they'll remember how cool mom was about it!
Your kids are smart and creative and FUN!!! I got me some of those too! i love it. These are the memories that bond siblings and give them fun things to talk about 10-20 yrs later. pure AWESOMENESS!
